Standard valve + adapter 145058
Convertible to many current Moentrol trim kits.
Moen requires the 145058 adapter and a 7-inch round escutcheon. Flara, Doux, Weymouth, Arris, 90 Degree and Voss are excluded.
Evidence note C081 · United States
The cartridge number is not enough. Moen’s own guide separates several valves that can look and operate similarly but accept different trim.
Direct answer
Moen says only its Standard valve can be converted with adapter kit 145058, and the new Moentrol trim must use a 7-inch round escutcheon. The visually similar Original Moentrol valve is not converted that way; Moen says no new trim kits are made for it. Later Moentrol and Posi-Temp valves follow different trim paths.

Family resemblance is not compatibility evidence. Each row stops exactly where the cited source stops.

Do not use the Standard-valve conversion path.
Moen distinguishes it by a balancing spool and says it no longer manufactures new trim kits for this valve; only limited-finish parts remain.
Use the matching Moentrol trim path.
Moen’s identification guide shows a later valve with different escutcheon screw positions and says it accepts Moentrol trim.
Use Posi-Temp trim, not a 1225-based guess.
It uses rotate-only handle operation and belongs to a different trim family.
Before buying
Do not order from the cartridge number alone. Record whether the handle pulls for flow or only rotates.
Record the escutcheon screw positions before removing anything.
After shutting off the water, remove the handle and escutcheon and check for the balancing spool Moen shows in its guide.
Only if the body matches Moen’s Standard valve should you use adapter 145058 and then choose an allowed 7-inch-round Moentrol trim collection.

Evidence boundary
This is an identification guide based on Moen’s published documents, not an in-wall inspection or plumbing instruction. Valve condition, prior modifications, waterproofing and code compliance are outside this audit. Shut off the water and use a qualified professional when identification or installation is uncertain.
